What's the difference between subtotal and total?

The subtotal is the cost of your food and drinks alone. The total includes taxes and any service charges added by the restaurant. Tips are typically calculated on the subtotal.

How much should I tip?

In the US, 15% is considered the minimum for decent service, 18–20% is standard, and 20–25% is a generous tip. For exceptional service, tip more. For counter service or takeout, 5–10% or a flat amount is common.

Can I tip a fixed dollar amount?
